GRIP Climbing Biel

GRIP climbing is a new gym in Biel, Switzerland. I was commissioned to design all walls in close cooperation with the owners. This job is what started my search for an efficient algorithm that allows quick adaption of planes and edges on a climbing wall design.

Bouldering walls235 m²
Indoor rope climbing walls480 m²
Outdoor rope climbing walls185 m²
The building with the outdoor wall added to Google Earth, as seen from the train passing by.
The space for the outdoor wall was limited due to legal distance limitations towards the nearby train tracks.
Only minimal angle changes were possible, yet I think we found a nice solution.
The first draft of one of the two bouldering walls which unfortunately had to be discarded due to taking up too much space in the not so wide building.
Algorithmic generation of print out for paper models.
Paper models were used to discuss different wall designs.
After a suggestion at Outdoor Trade Show I started using an Oculus Go. Clients can experience their future gym with immersive 360° images.
