Fuse / Bracket

The concave of the Fuse and Bracket longboards were developed by bending a lot of paper. At the time, I was not yet able to simulate the behaviour of thin layers of veneer computationally yet. Once I had the layout of the bends figured out, I transferred it into CAD.

At the time, the bends found on the Fuse and Bracket were far beyond what was available on the market. In the following years, more and more wild concaves popped up. It was an interesting aera where some of the leading longboard brands definitely pushed concaves and board designs to a new level.

The mesh for this 3D animation was scanned with my Artec Leo.

The wheelwells on the Bracket were 5 axis CNC milled with a 80 mm diameter cylinder millbit, running clockwise for two wheelwells and counter-clockwise for the other two in order to cut nicely through the veneers.
