Pete Connolly

With an impressive speed of 146.73 km/h, Pete holds the Guinness World Record for the fastest speed standing on a downhill skateboard.

In search of improvements we developped fairings for his Sabre longboard trucks. Pete spent quite some time in a wind tunnel and eventually got some help from SimScale, a company which offers an easy to use online tool for computational wind tunnel simulations. You can read more about this collaboration on the SimScale blog.

I did a full body scan of Pete in his speed tuck and captured a few of his helmets and a complete board. In addition to rendering various images and animations, I created a 3D printable action figure in scale 1:5.

The scan was done with my Artec Eva. Due to the power supply and being connected to a computer with a USB cable, it was quite exhausting. Pete was wearing an black suit and matte black helmet and we agreed to create a model without texture.
